Gallery Hopping Like It's 'Emily in Paris' But Make It Mountain Weird
Three days immersed in Asheville's vibrant arts scene
Dylan's Take
Asheville's art scene isn't trying to be Brooklyn or Portland — it's built around working studios rather than white-cube galleries. The River Arts District has more than 500 working artists in converted industrial buildings along the French Broad, and on Second Saturdays most studios open their doors so you can watch people actually making the work, not just looking at it finished.

River Arts District Studio Crawl
Foundation Studios

Insider Tip: Third Thursday evenings host a free open-studio social, but the gallery and studios are open daily for browsing
RAD food trucks
Rotating food trucks park along the greenway through the River Arts District most weekends — check what's parked that day rather than planning around one specific kitchen
Insider Tip: The district is still rebuilding some infrastructure after 2024's flooding, so food truck locations shift more than storefronts do — Instagram is more reliable than any fixed address
Odyssey Gallery of Ceramic Arts
Cooperative gallery run by more than 20 local ceramic artists, with adjoining studio spaces you can walk through
Insider Tip: Closed Tuesdays; the studios behind the gallery are often more interesting than the retail floor
Wedge Brewing Co.
Riverside brewery inside the Wedge Studios building, one of the RAD's original industrial-to-arts conversions
Insider Tip: Opens at noon on weekends — the outdoor tables along the tracks are the spot
The Grey Eagle
Asheville's longest-running live music venue, with a taqueria on site and local art on the walls
West Asheville & Street Art
West Asheville Mural Tour
Self-guided tour of Haywood Road murals and street art
Insider Tip: Start at the Mothlight for coffee and a map
Revolve
Volunteer-run contemporary art space — part gallery, part studio, part performance venue — with rotating exhibitions
Sunny Point Cafe
West Asheville brunch spot that grows a portion of its own produce in an on-site quarter-acre garden
Insider Tip: The wait is real on weekends but the roasted tomato and cheddar omelet is worth it
West Asheville mural walk
Self-guided walk along Haywood Road's street art and murals, most concentrated between Michigan Ave and the I-240 overpass
