Living Your Best 'You've Got Mail' Fantasy in the Mountains
A bookish weekend exploring Asheville's literary landmarks and indie bookstores
Dylan's Take
I'll admit it - I judge cities by their bookstores. When I moved here from Boston, I was worried I'd miss the literary scene. Then I walked into Malaprop's and saw their queer literature section (it's substantial, y'all) and knew I was home. Asheville has this weird literary magic - Thomas Wolfe wrote about not being able to go home again, but ironically his childhood home is now a museum here. The city attracts writers like a coffee shop with good wifi and no time limits. Between the indie bookstores, writer's workshops, and the fact that everyone seems to be working on a novel at Dobra Tea, it's basically Stars Hollow for book nerds.
